Advanced Certificate Courses

Students enrolled in any certificate tracks have the option of pursuing advanced certificates by attending summer session courses.  Students have the option of taking a full contact course, gaining them the advanced certificate and U of T credit, or taking the on-line version of one of the summer courses being offered and spending the final two weeks of the course on campus, working with an assigned group of enrolled students, on a final project.

Why do the advanced certificate?  Engaging in contact courses in addition to your online studies shows employers and educators that you are willing to go the extra step in obtaining the skills necessary for your next advancement.  Also, some skills require a hands-on component, which can be difficult to gather from on-line courses.  The contact courses also give you an opportunity to interact with students pursuing degrees and advanced degrees in your area(s) of interest, allowing you to establish a network of contacts for your future.

The campuses of the University of Toronto are beautiful in the summer, and inexpensive accomodation is literally right across the street from the Faculty of Forestry.  We have a full woodshop, wood composites, and wood chemistry labs, and many summer forestry courses have field components that allow you to actually live and do research in the forest for several weeks.  Whether you come for the full semester or just the final two weeks, you (and your family) will find plenty to do in Toronto, all while gaining invaluable experience in your chosen field.
