Certificate Courses

The certificate courses offered through the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Forestry allow non-traditional students the opportunity to gain practical expertise in their chosen area, while still allowing for all the benefits of a traditional classroom education.  Each class runs a full semester, and is specifically tailored for one of four course concentrations.  The specific goal of each concentration is to increase the technical and scientific expertise of the student enrolled, specifically to develop an enhanced understanding of current issues and practices within each concentration.

Certificates courses serve two purposes.  The primary purpose is to allow for flexible continuing education for non-traditional students that will help them gain the technical and scientific knowledge necessary for advancement within their field.  The secondary purpose of the courses is to allow those unsure about pursuing advanced degrees the opportunity to try out different fields within forestry.

Certificate courses are available in wood design, wood preservation, forest management, and urban forestry, and are one year in duration.  In the first semester, students take the two required courses.  In the winter term, students take the two courses listed for their concentration, and may take an optional third course from another concentration.  Students may take up to two concentrations at a time, if desired.
